Remember, remember...

I watched the trailer for V for Vendetta and it made me think about the possibility of dictator state arise from the debris of crumbled democratic government.Maybe we think that democracy is something planted firmly in Malaysia and many other countries. The type of government, people who govern and the people's rights has never been more fragile that it is today thanks to the advance communication. Rome and other great empires were not build in a day but the decaying and the fall of those government also took many years.

Today, it wouldn't take long for a government or a state to crumble.A coup d'etat can crippled a govenment within a couple of hours and the the whole nation can be stripped of their rights in a day.For a democratic nation, the worst enemy of the system has to be FEAR. A great force of military is needed to execute a coup d'etat and wrestle the people of their rights. However, using the sentiment of fear, one can take away the people's rights without even the need to use any force. Using the fear of losing the democracy itself can be used to justify dictatorship. People will gladly give their freedom and rights when this fear being stuffed into their throats.

There are many example where a person/group of people use the awesome combination of theatrical and fear to slowly but surely take away the fereedom and rights of a nation right under their nose. The easiest example to explain this would be the Patriotic Act by the American government after the 9/11 incident to tap people's conversations, money transactions, emails and strip many other rights. At one time it even includes waging an illegal war and executing subversive actions to nations thousand of miles away. All of these in the name of upholding democracy. Other recent examples would be the declaration of emergency state in Philippines or the attack on the Shi'ite mosque in Iraq. Make no mistake that all of these incidents were used to create fear and panic in the society giving those people a chance to use/create whatever acts to 'take control' of the situation. This acts will include stripping people's rights in the name of democracy. It's very amusing how justifying the need to uphold democracy can be used to destroy democracy itself. Every state and nations is at risk. REMEMBER,REMEMBER...
